Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
BRAND BUILDING FOR A CARING FUTURE
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of healthcare services to over half a million people in North Tyneside and Northumberland, North East England. The Trust has 11 hospitals and delivers over 35 key clinical and support service areas. A new Specialist Emergency Care Hospital enhances the delivery of accident and emergency services.
Northumbria Healthcare has an extremely proactive approach to communicating with its ‘customer’ base, stakeholders and employees. And, in 2011, Blumilk was asked to look at how the Northumbria Healthcare could be presented as a ‘new fresh brand’.
BLUMILK IMMEDIATELY GRASPED THE COMPLEXITIES OF THE BRIEF. THEY WERE GREAT TO WORK WITH. THEY ALSO HELP US TO KEEP UP WITH THE LATEST TRENDS IN TECHNOLOGY.

Easier said than done. NHS England has a strict branding code that limits the potential of individual Trusts to create its unique personality. However, we were up for the challenge so was the team at Northumbria.
We majored on the message and built the brand on this – ‘Building a Caring Future – Hospital: Community: Home’. A distinctive personality was the result.
BLUMILK HAS EXCELLED IN DESIGNING AND RUNNING OUR WEBSITE… (IT)… CRUCIALLY MANAGES TO PRESENT THE INFORMATION SIMPLY AND CLEARLY, IN LINE WITH BRAND GUIDELINES.

Then… there was a new website, a significant multi-level project completed by our digital team. The site has around 1000 pages. With no padding, every page was significant to the complete service offering.
Head of Communications at Northumbria Healthcare says: “Our website had to convey a huge amount of crucially important details on all the services we offer. Blumilk has excelled in designing and running our website… (they are also) helpful in helping us to keep up with the latest trends in technology and suggesting new developments for the site.”
The Trust’s commitment to high-level communication means a regular demand for leaflets and adverts, reports and notices to be delivered by us… even advice on the internal branding of the new Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.
